As a woman leader in IT, you’re the person responsible and accountable for your team’s performance.

I know, that might seem heavy at times.

But, you’re the leader your management and customers look to when deliverables are late or milestones missed.

Conversely, you’re also going to receive high praises and respect when you implement solutions to the problem.

Exploring team accountability issues is like navigating a maze.

Each turn reveals new paths and hidden challenges that must be understood to solve the issues.

Though it seems simple, this problem is way more complex than it appears.

It’s crucial to understand the tight correlation between team accountability and performance.

In this episode, I share important insights into these topics, helping you drive your team to success.

The Key to Accountability and Enhanced Performance is Team Culture

It’s Monday morning.

Your manager begins your day requesting project updates. Ughhh!

You quickly check calendars and send a meeting invite to your team.

As you start the round robin discussion, you hear:

You pause for a moment wondering how to answer your manager’s questions.

Your customers are also asking and their frustration is growing.

Can you relate to this?

Strong team accountability is essential. Without it, your team’s performance can significantly decline.

As a woman leader in IT, you have the awesome opportunity to create a team culture that thrives when they understand this importance.

Set expectations for the type of details you want your team to share when you meet on a weekly basis.

What will help you know the accurate status of their work so that you can answer questions from your management and customers?

Your team will establish a productive rhythm knowing they need to have tasks finished and ready to report when you meet.

Peer motivation will drive each member to excel. No one on the team wants to look poorly in front of their peers!

They will playfully banter about their weekly accomplishments, adding a light and uplifting spirit to the meeting.

Are you seeing how this type of culture also encourages openness and sharing?

You want to know what your team is struggling with.

At times, they may have challenges in their personal life that are impacting their work.

Pay close attention to what they say and how they say it.

Follow up with genuine intent, asking how you can assist, and ensure your words are backed by sincerity.

They may not completely understand all the processes they need to follow to complete their work.

Or they may not be fully proficient in the tasks you have assigned to them.

This weekly meeting with your team is going to reveal so many important details for you. Your challenge is to listen carefully, ask questions, and take action when you discover the issues.

Are you recognizing the crucial role of team accountability in efficiently meeting timelines and achieving milestones?

There are even more pathways to discover in this maze of team accountability and I’ll share more in future episodes that you won’t want to miss.
